Philly placed three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve because of a knee injury, sidelining him for at least the next four games. The move came one day after Dickerson struggled in the Eagles’ 24-22 win, and some fans viewed the absence as a reset rather than a devastating loss.

Dickerson was brutally honest about his “ugly” performance, admitting that he was “a complete liability” on the field. The Eagles #69 guard was flagged for a critical holding penalty that stalled an offensive drive in the second half.

However, that characterization is mere speculation. Dickerson is confirmed to be going on injured reserve with a knee injury, and the guard himself acknowledged Monday that he should not have been playing in his current condition.

Dickerson was even harsher on his own performance during an appearance on WIP. He admitted that he “should not be on the field” until he feels healthy.

The injury is separate from the meniscus problem he dealt with last season. Dickerson said he was rolled up on during a practice a few weeks ago and believes injured reserve gives him the chance to get healthy for the back end of the season.
Eagles Likely to Field Drew Kenall as Replacement
Philadelphia now has to replace one of the most accomplished guards on its roster. Drew Kendall, a 2025 fifth-round pick, is considered a strong candidate after a productive offseason, while Willie Lampkin provides another option inside.
Dickerson currently carries a 71.9OL Impact grade. His Week 1 performance fell well below that standard, with four pressures allowed as Philadelphia’s offensive line struggled to protect Jalen Hurts.

The problem also extends beyond one rough afternoon. Dickerson has battled lower-body issues over the past two seasons and underwent meniscus surgery in August 2025. He later acknowledged that he probably returned too quickly.
Notably, Nick Sirianni did not bury his veteran after the opener. The Eagles coach praised Dickerson’s power and toughness while acknowledging he needed to “correct some snaps.”
Philadelphia still escaped Week 1 with a close victory, but losing Dickerson adds another complication before a Week 2 trip to Tennessee.
For fans calling the move a “soft benching,” Dickerson’s own assessment may be more telling. He knew he was hurting the offense, and Philadelphia decided four games without him was better than asking him to keep playing.
