Matt LaFleur sent the offensive line of his Green Bay Packers squad a major wakeup call after they underperformed in their 39-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

LaFleur got the eighth season of his head coaching career underway with the Packers. He consistently leads the team to the playoffs but hasn’t gotten them to the NFC Championship game since 2019 and 2020. They also suffered back-to-back Wild Card exits in the last two seasons, possibly putting LaFleur on the hot seat if results don’t improve.

Green Bay’s campaign started on the wrong foot, falling on the road to Minnesota. The defense collapsed in the fourth quarter, but the offense let itself down as well. The offensive line allowed Love to absorb four sacks and 15 total hits, drawing huge criticism from LaFleur on Monday.

“When your QB gets hit 15 times, that’s too many times,” LaFleur said, per reporter Matt Schneidman.

How Matt LaFleur, Packers performed against Vikings

Matt LaFleur knows that plenty of eyes are on him to get the Packers a successful campaign. If he doesn’t, this may serve as his last year at the helm. He hopes the opening loss to the Vikings isn’t a major sign of that.

Both teams traded blows as Green Bay led 22-17 going into the fourth quarter. Minnesota exploded with an excellent display in the last 15 minutes of regulation, shutting out the visitors with 22 consecutive points.

Jordan Love was unable to showcase his star form throughout the opener. He completed 21 out of 42 passes for 387 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.

Green Bay missed Josh Jacobs’ presence in the run game, being unable to make dents in Minnesota’s defense with just 66 yards to show for it. Christian Watson shined with six catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns, while Matthew Golden caught six passes for 95 yards.

The Packers will look to bounce back in their next matchup, remaining on the road. They take on the New York Jets in Week 2 as kickoff commences on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. ET.
