On Sunday, November 15th, the New England Patriots are planning on having a game in Munich. However, this Tuesday, the Patriots are planning on having some fun as part of a promotional event for the game by having a Hall of Famer attempt a record-setting kick high up in the Alps, all while recreating one of the most memorable moments in Patriots history.

A pro who was just inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Although he is retired, he's still down for recreating some shots from his team’s history between the 1997 and 2005 seasons. While with the Patriots, Vinatieri was known for landing some game-winning kicks. During his ten seasons with the team, he had 18 game-winning field goals, with the fifth-highest in NFL history at 81.9%. Needless to say, it will be iconic to have Vinatieri do this for the Patriots, even if the main event is still two months out.
The Kickoff Event
Adam Vinatieri will be kicking into a goal at the resort Jungfraujoch, also known as the Top of Europe, due to its elevation in the Swiss Alps. This area connects two mountains in the Alps, Jungfrau and Mönch, giving the area its name. This gives him the conditions for setting a Guinness World Record for the highest-elevation kick. When asked about the event, Vinatieri expressed his excitement for the event.
“I’ve had the chance to attempt a lot of special kicks in my career, but getting to go for an official Guinness World Records title on snow at 3,454 meters in a Patriots jersey is truly something special,” says Adam Vinatieri. “The conditions up there in the Alps are completely different from anything we know from the NFL. That’s exactly what makes this challenge so exciting.”

The venue itself, Jungfraujoch, is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, deep valleys carved by glaciers, and, of course, the glaciers themselves. The region’s natural beauty is a sight to see, and quite the setting to get fans excited for the game this fall. All being set up by the Jungfrau Railway, which runs through it all. In the snow, of course, again to recreate the look of the Snow Plow Game.
The Highest Elevation Kick
The record itself will be a new entry for Guinness. A high-elevation kick like this has not been recorded by the organization, at least not for American football. For a first entry in the records, it is not a bad baseline at all. The Jungfraujoch is at 11,332 feet (3,454 meters), and setting up higher-elevation kicks gets logistically difficult. It is already a high bar to set, and following attempts on it will feel more gradual than groundbreaking. However, it could create an interesting little tradition for future Munich games. A fun callback to the Snow Plow, and a great opportunity for some photo shoots for promotional images. Just a player, a ball, and gorgeous scenery.
End Record Rant
A hall of famer, a world record, and beautiful mountains. Can't ask for a better promotional event for a game than that. Given that the air will be thin, there is the possibility of some control issues with the ball. Adam Vinatieri will need to get some practice shots in before the real thing to avoid kicking the ball over the goal. One can't help but wonder if this would become a regular event. Maybe having the quarterbacks in future shots, or even fan favorites. This could be a great tradition for the Munich Games and can easily be an iconic one as well.
