Andrew Fischer hits 50th homer and Biloxi forces winner-take-all

Andrew Fischer hit his 50th home run of the season and drove in four runs, while Biloxi Shuckers starter Bishop Letson was sensational in a 7-0 win over Rocket City in the Southern League Championship Series on Sept. 22.

The win sent the Brewers' Class AA affiliate to a winner-take-all battle for the Southern League crown, a game that will be played just outside of Huntsville against the Angels affiliate on Sept. 23.

Fischer, the No. 5 prospect in the Brewers' organization according to MLB Pipeline, hit his second home run of the postseason and reached 50 for the season. He belted 48 in the regular season, the most in a minor-league baseball season since 1982.

Fischer hit 20 with Class High A Wisconsin (54 games), another 28 with Biloxi (72 games) and two in the postseason with the Shuckers.

The left-handed corner infielder, Milwaukee's first-round pick in 2025, also smoked a two-run double into the corner to grow Biloxi's lead to 5-0 in the eighth.

Letson was just as big a story, striking out 12 batters and allowing no runs on four hits through seven innings, with zero walks. The 12 punchouts tied a single-game franchise record for Biloxi.

The No. 8 prospect in the organization had a tough year in terms of results, with a 7-6 mark in the regular season and 4.85 ERA in 22 starts. But he allowed four earned runs over his final three starts of the season (16 innings) and now has allowed one earned run in 12 playoff innings, with 16 strikeouts, three walks and 10 hits.

Over those last five starts of the season, Letson has a 1.60 ERA.

It was a good day for Brewers top prospect Jesús Made, as well. He smoked an RBI double to open the scoring in the sixth after the teams battled to a scoreless tie to that point, and he added an RBI single in the ninth. Made also stole a base.

Rocket City starter Tyler Bremner, a top-50 prospect in all of baseball, only allowed two hits in five innings but yielded to the bullpen thereafter.

Braylon Payne, the No. 6 player in the organization and just 20 years old after getting taken in the first round of the 2024 draft, continued to thrive at Class AA, going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Payne had an .846 OPS in his 25 games after promotion from Class High A Wisconsin, with five homers and three steals, and he hit another home run in the postseason.

Left-handed pitcher Wande Torres struck out five of the six men he faced in two innings of perfect relief.

The Brewers will send starter J.D. Thompson (No. 18 prospect) to the mound against Rocket City in the de facto season championship game Sept. 23, with the game beginning at 6:35 p.m. CT.
