Steph Curry Signs Two-year Extension With Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have answered their biggest remaining question and secured the future of their franchise star in the process. 

Per a recent report from ESPN's Shams Charania, the Warriors have signed star guard Steph Curry to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with a player option for the 2028-29 season. On top of Curry's final year on his previous contract, he'll be earning up to $178.5 million over the next three seasons.

Curry's Extension

Should Curry pick up his option for the 2028-29 season, the new extension will take Curry through his age age-40 season and what will be the 20th season of his career, drastically increasing the likelihood that Curry may have just signed the final contract of his career and could retire as a Warrior by the time the contract is done.

Securing this extension now before the regular season begins became the Warriors' biggest priority in the latter half of the offseason and adds some much-needed security to the Warriors' future plans. 

Curry, the Warriors' all-time leader in points, steals, assists, three pointers and games played has experienced a full range of emotions with the Warriors, from leading the franchise to a four-championship dynasty to seeing a slow decline in their dominance in the NBA that culminated in the team missing the playoffs last season.

But his faith in the franchise has never wavered and after his partner-in-crime Draymond Green and longtime coach Steve Kerr both signed deals to extend their own futures in Golden State earlier this offseason, it seemed like Curry following suit was an inevitability that has since been proven correct. 

There simply is no Golden State without Curry so long as he has an active NBA career and even if times have been tough for the Warriors as of late, Curry's confidence in the team has been a pillar that they could always rely on.

Uncertain times may lie ahead for the Warriors with a thin crop of promising young players to lead the franchise once Curry and Green have departed the franchise, but that awkward process is at at least three seasons away after this extension has been signed. 

Curry has left a mark on the NBA on a scale that few players of his generation ever have and this extension puts him one step closer to accomplishing the rare feat of playing an entire career with one franchise. 

Through the highs and lows, Curry has been the face of the Warriors. That won't be changing any time soon.
