Starting this season, the Jessi Pierce Media Beauty Award will be voted upon by local media and given to the Wild player who exemplifies professionalism, accessibility and respect in their engagement with the press.

“Jessi always showed up to the rink eager and excited, engaging everyone with her infectious smile and passion for the sport,” said Minnesota Wild beat reporters, in a statement released by the team. “She had a knack for asking questions and cultivating stories because she put players and coaches at ease with her curiosity and genuine interest. We feel her absence daily, and this award will be a reminder of the rapport she had that is essential to covering the Wild and keeping the State of Hockey informed, which she loved doing.”

Pierce and her three children were killed in a March 21 house fire in their White Bear Lake home. Officials recently announced an overheated electric system in the home sparked the fire which spread quickly. Pierce had spent many seasons covering the Wild for NHL.com and co-hosting the popular Bardown Beauties podcast.

A plaque displaying the annual winner of the Jessi Pierce Media Beauty Award will be hung in the pressbox at Grand Casino Arena.
