Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. continues to be in the national spotlight as he is set to miss his fourth straight game with an apparent “back” injury. However, it’s the lack of contract extension this offseason that has had trade rumors continuing to swirl around Porter.
As injuries continue to pile up around the league, yet another team might be emerging as a potential trade partner for the Steelers, if they decide they are willing to move on from him.
The Carolina Panthers have officially placed both of their starting cornerbacks — Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson — on injured reserve, making them an obvious cornerback-needy team.

It is unclear aggressive the Panthers might be willing to be as they sit at 1-2, but they are still in first place in the NFC South and adding Porter could help separate them from the rest.
Porter is coming off arguably the best season of his NFL career, during which he recorded a career-high 14 passes defensed to go along with 52 tackles, one sack and one interception.
That’s exactly why the Steelers shouldn’t part with Porter, paired with the fact that they haven’t had very much success with drafting cornerbacks in recent history, and Porter is one of the few stars they have hit on.

Only time will tell if that will be the case, but the Steelers have a very difficult decision to make and a growing list of potential suitors.
The No. 32 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Porter has recorded 165 tackles, one sack, 31 passes defensed and three interceptions in his professional career.
