BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — You typically don't expect a running clock in a game between two 6-0 teams, but then Byron isn't just any 6-0 team. The Tigers are an orange and black machine and that machine was on full display Friday as Byron defeated the Du-Pec Rivermen 59-0.
Byron, the defending 3A state champions, struck early on a pick-six by Ben Hively and on a long touchdown run by Landon Bonvallet. The Tigers kept rolling on both sides of the ball. They led 42-0 at halftime leading to the running clock in the second half.
The Tigers got the ball first in the second half, and they scored once again on that opening drive on another TD run by Bonvallet. The Tigers pulled their starters at the end of the third quarter.
JJ Edmonson also scored a pair of touchdown runs for Byron. Dylan Dach and Ben Hiveley added two more electric touchdown runs.
Byron's defense also rose to the challenge by coming up with two stops on fourth-and-one tries by the Rivermen.
