Lola Appleby, so., Homestead girls golf

For the first time in a decade, the Homestead girls golf program will play for a WIAA team state title. The sophomore Appleby led the Highlanders by shooting a 1-under 71 to finish as the Hartford Union Sectional runner-up, three strokes behind co-medalists Rita Kuepper from Hartford and McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam. Appleby's score of 71 also helped the Highlanders finish as the event's team runner-up with a total of 332, 12 strokes behind sectional champion Hartford.

Charlotte Bartelak, fr., New Berlin Eisenhower girls cross-country

The freshman runner won the Wisconsin Lutheran Invite with a time of 17:45.60 to not only set a school record for Ike, but she also set an event record. The victory marked her third individual victory this season and the fifth time in six meets that the freshman has finished inside of the top-five runners at an event.

Connor Henschel, jr., Franklin football

The junior not only caught four passes for a team-high 89 yards and a touchdown, he also made a 29-yard field goal as time expired to give Franklin a 27-24 victory on the road over Oconomowoc to complete a 21-7 halftime comeback. The Sabers outscored the Raccoons 17-0 in the second half, including 10 points in the final quarter.

Rita Kuepper, sr., Hartford girls golf

The two-sport star senior led the Orioles to the program's first-ever team appearance at WIAA state with a co-medalist performance of 4-under 68 to help Hartford beat out local programs Homestead (332) and Cedarburg (346) for the Hartford Union Sectional team title. Kuepper also individually qualified for state for the third straight season.

Kat Nelson, so., Waukesha West girls cross-country

The sophomore made program history at the Classic 8 Conference meet. Nelson won the Classic 8 Conference meet by 58 seconds with a time of 18:26. With the victory, Nelson became the first female Waukesha West athlete to win the conference championship since 2006 and her time was the fourth-fastest ever ran at the conference meet. Her time also set a school record.
