CNN initially reported Tuesday afternoon that Trump intended to attend the Week 6 game on Oct. 18. However, shortly before 6:30 p.m., the network reported that the president would no longer make the trip.

Had Trump attended, it would have marked his second Steelers game appearance in less than two years. During his 2024 presidential campaign against Kamala Harris, Trump attended the Steelers’ matchup against the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium as a guest of a Pittsburgh suite holder. Pennsylvania proved to be a crucial swing state in that election, ultimately going to Trump.

Trump has frequently attended high-profile sporting events during his time in office. In February 2025, he became the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl in person, watching Super Bowl 59 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Trump also attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden in June.

The reason for the reported change in plans remains unclear. The Buccaneers game wasn't considered a marquee matchup, so the initial report of Trump's expected attendance was somewhat surprising.
