Aaron Blankenship, athletic director for Fairfield Schools, said last week’s ceremony at Jungle Jim's Oscar Station banquet hall “was a special evening as we not only inducted the newest class into the Fairfield Athletic Hall of Fame, but also celebrated the rich history of Fairfield athletics.”

“It was incredible to welcome inductees whose accomplishments span five different decades in our record books and to hear the stories behind their experiences,” said Blankenship.

The 2026 Hall of Fame inductees and their Fairfield High School sports accomplishments as noted by district officials are:

A four-year varsity cross country and track athlete, Dixon was a four-time state qualifier, GMC Runner of the Year and state medalist, and continues to hold Fairfield's all-time 5K and 3200-meter records.

Brian Hobbs, 1992 graduate, was a member of Fairfield's 1991 State Championship baseball team and the 1992 State Final Four team, while also lettering in football and basketball. He continued his baseball career at Joliet Junior College, where he was part of a national championship team, before building an accomplished career in military and federal healthcare, research and leadership.

Ben Phillips, 2017 graduate, excelled in both basketball and volleyball during his Fairfield career, earning multiple All-GMC honors, team captain recognition and a GMC Championship in volleyball. He went on to an impressive international athletic career, including professional basketball and volleyball, a gold medal with the Philippines national basketball team and selection in the Philippine Basketball Association Draft, while also building a career in technology and business.

Mark Harden, who served as Fairfield Athletic Director from 2009-2019, dedicated his career to providing students with opportunities to learn, grow and succeed. His leadership, mentorship and passion for athletics left a lasting impact on Fairfield coaches, student-athletes and the athletic department, including his work helping guide major improvements to Fairfield's athletic facilities.

Zach Shupp, a 2018 graduate, was a two-sport standout in wrestling and soccer, helping the soccer team to a GMC Championship in 2017. On the wrestling mat, Shupp became a four-time state qualifier, three-time state placer and 2018 State Champion, finishing his high school career with 151 wins, the most in Fairfield history, before continuing his career at the collegiate level.

Greg Whited spent more than three decades serving Fairfield City Schools in a variety of roles, including teacher, coach, assistant athletic director and athletic director at Fairfield Freshman School. Known for his selfless service, mentorship and commitment to others, Greg played an important role in the day-to-day success of Fairfield Athletics and was instrumental in the reconstruction of Fairfield Athletic Stadium.

Karen Cosby Fuchs, 1976 graduate, was a three-sport standout at Fairfield, earning varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and softball. A member of a GMC Championship softball team and a tri-captain in basketball, Karen was recognized for her athletic success, leadership and sportsmanship both during her playing career and through her continued service to the community.

Bill Stewart dedicated 48 years to education and made a tremendous impact on Fairfield Athletics as a coach and athletic director. As Fairfield's softball coach from 1983-1992, he led the program to five consecutive GMC Championships, four GMC Coach of the Year honors and the program's first regional championship, including an undefeated 27-0 season in 1989.

And the 1986 State Championship Football Team has a special place in Fairfield History, becoming the first team to be inducted into the Fairfield Athletics Hall of Fame. The team was celebrating 40 years since their historic championship run that lead to the State Championship over Lakewood’s St. Edwards High School.

“What stood out most was how much Fairfield and this community continue to mean to them,” said Blankenship.

“Every inductee spoke about the impact their coaches had on their lives and how their experiences and success at Fairfield helped create opportunities for them long after graduation.”
