Red Wings on Dylan Larkin: 'That ... is a strong statement'
· Yahoo Sports
Shawn Horcoff summed up where the Detroit Red Wings are at with Dylan Larkin.
"Dylan no longer wants to be a Red Wing and he's not with us," the Wings interim general manager said Thursday, Oct. 29. "That pretty much is a strong statement."

Larkin's agent, Pat Brisson, told the team that Larkin "had had enough," as six months have passed since he asked for a trade. Larkin no longer want to report to the team, which led the Wings to suspend him – that's costing him $41,237.11 a day. Larkin is in Year 4 of an eight-year deal with a $8.7 million annual average value.
Larkin has a no-trade clause, which is complicating the situation. His most recent list numbers 10 teams: the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche.
"We've talked to other teams and taken calls from other teams around the league that have expressed interest in Dylan, and we just continue to try to find a solution that fits for both sides," Horcoff said. "You know, we have to sensitive to Dylan and his situation, and and understand what he wants in this relationship.
"But at the same time, you know, responsibility to our players in the locker room, the 22 other guys in the locker room, coaching staff, management, the fans, to also do what's right for the organization."
Here's what else Horcoff had to say Thursday:
On trade talks
The Wings are light on center depth, and see Larkin as a valuable asset. Preferably, they want value-now players in return.
"I think the goal is to is to get players that can help us right away, but at the same time, the vision and the ultimate goal is is the long-term success of the organization.
"I'm open to all different kinds of deals, and really, we're just trying to find something that that is fair and for a return for someone of Dylan's caliber. He's a heck of a player on a good contract, and it's important for us. With Dylan, you know, he signed a long-term contract with the Detroit Red Wings, and we in turn showed a commitment to him. And when that happens, he becomes a major part of your long-term plans. And when you remove someone like that, it becomes difficult to kind of replace. So, I think it's important for for me to be open to all areas, whether it's prospects and picks and players. But I am doing my best to try to help this group that we have here now.
On Simon Edvinsson
Larkin's trade demand has seemed all-consuming, but Horcoff is also trying to sign Simon Edvinsson, a restricted free agent defenseman.
"It's status quo for Simon from last time," Horcoff said. "There's nothing changed there. We're still trying to get something done with Simon."
Edvinsson and the Red Wings face a Dec. 1 deadline; if the young Swede remains unsigned then, he'll have to sit out the 2026-27 NHL season.
On things are in the room
"It's pretty raw," Horcoff said. "I think everybody needs some time in the locker room to to digest it."
