Arch Manning was considered top Heisman Trophy candidate and among the top five college players entering this season. After an impressive sophomore season in 2025, several analysts, like Joel Klatt, picked him as a preseason favorite for the 2027 NFL draft.

However, Manning has had a hot-and-cold season. He has helped No. 11 Texas to a 5-2 record (3-2 SEC), but his future with Steve Sarkisian is a matter of discussion.

Coming from a family with a football legacy, Manning was touted to become one of the top three NFL draft picks if not the first. Now, many believe that he should return to college next year. In fact, some even suggest that Manning should transfer to a team where he can grow more as a quarterback. Analyst Todd McShay believes that Manning should play under Kentucky’s Will Stein.

“Maybe he’s (Sarkisian) not the best quarterback developer. I still think Arch can be a really good pro. … I’ve heard Georgia. I’ve heard Ole Miss. I’ve heard all different places of where he could transfer,” McShay said on Thursday.

“There’s one guy that turned Bo Nix into Auburn, laughable Bo Nix, who got drafted 12th overall. There’s one guy who turned Dillon Gabriel into a third-round draft pick. There’s one guy that turned Dante Moore into, ‘It’s not working here at UCLA (to) now, we’re saying the upside’s better than him than (Fernando) Mendoza if he had come out or (if) he would have been the No. 2 overall pick.’ One guy, Will Stein. That’s what my advice would be, to explore that avenue,” he said.

Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore all played under Will Stein in 2023, 2024 and 2025 respectively, when Stein was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon.

Stein became the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats in December 2025.
