The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently in the process of exploring the MLB free agent market, which opened for business earlier this week. One of the key priorities for Los Angeles this offseason will be bringing back star pitcher Tarik Skubal, whom the team acquired from the Detroit Tigers in a blockbuster trade midway through last season.
Now, MLB insider Bob Nightengale has broken down the kind of contract that Skubal might command on the open market.
“They’re not going to go under 325. We’ll see if it hits 400…. if a few teams are in the same ballpark, I would think the teams out west would have an advantage since Skubal lives out here and everything else. I would think if the Dodgers are close, he goes back to LA,” he said, per Foul Territory on X, formerly Twitter.

Many suspected that the Dodgers would be the prime candidates to re-sign Skubal in free agency the second they traded for him last year from the Tigers, and it appears that Nightengale also subscribes to this line of thinking as free agency gets underway.
Skubal was mostly rock-solid in his lone half-season with Los Angeles, although he and the Dodgers were left scrambling for answers after the Milwaukee Brewers shockingly swept them out of the playoffs en route to the World Series.
While the Dodgers are unlikely to make any drastic changes as a response to that setback, it certainly fractured the illusion of Los Angeles’ invincibility that they had built up over the last few years.
In any case, it doesn’t seem that Skubal is in a big hurry to sign his next deal, wherever that may be.
