Bedford, Flat Rock and St. Mary Catholic Central captured district championships on Thursday, Nov. 5.

They will continue their quests for state championships in regional action on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Ida, New Boston Huron and Erie Mason saw their seasons come to an end.

A roundup of all the district finals follows.

Division 2 at Airport

CARLETON – A dominant third set showed Flat Rock’s vast potential.

The defending state runners-up got the job done in the first two sets, then hit their stride in the third set of a 25-15, 25-19, 25-11 victory over New Boston Huron.

“The first set we had a good hitting percentage but weren’t good on serve receive,” Flat Rock coach Morgan Delhey said. “In the second we were good on serve receive but didn’t hit for a high percentage. We put it all together in the third.”

Flat Rock’s dynamic 1-2 punch at the net Sarah Giroux and Lily Klein dominated the final set with five kills apiece. Klein had four putaways in one streak of five straight points with Giroux notching the other.

Giroux finished with 17 kills and 7 digs while Klein recorded 11 kills and 4 blocks.

Taylor Hesse contributed 7 kills, Zoe Ryan 26 assists and 13 digs and Elle Dwyer 6 digs for the 25-11-1 Rams.

“Tonight we found a way to keep our momentum, keeping excited even when we had a big lead,” Delhey said.

Flat Rock advances to regional play at Dearborn Divine Child at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Huron finishes at 17-14-5.

“The mental game got to us a little,” Huron coach Devon Newman said. “The girls were a little intimidated.”

That was not too surprising considering that the Chiefs have four freshmen on the varsity roster.

“We had a heck of a season for being so incredibly young,” Newman said. “It was hard for them to see right now, but we have done well. We had some timely wins in the league. We have a lot to be proud of.”

Division 1 at Bedford

TEMPERANCE – Bedford roared back after dropping the first two sets to dispatch Trenton in five.

The Mules move on to regional action at Lincoln Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Division 3 at Hudson

HUDSON – Claire Ryan racked up 11 kills and 2 aces to lead St. Mary Catholic Central past Erie Mason 25-14, 25-9, 25-11.

Avery Yaeger and Lia Conant added 8 kills each and Bella Caladino recorded 7 putaways.

The Kestrels advance to the regional at Whiteford to take on Hanover-Horton at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Aubrey Iocoangeli (5 kills, 2 aces, 1 block), Addie Homrich (5 kills) and Zoie Stubleski (3 kills, 2 aces) led 18-13-1 Mason.

Division 2 at Dundee

DUNDEE – Ida could not keep pace with a powerful Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard team, falling 25-16, 25-20, 25-13.

“They were very talented,” Ida coach Ashley Begeman said. “We did play well. I was super happy with how we played. We competed well. They just had a lot of guns.”

Freshman Hadley Bogden led the Blue Streaks with 6 kills, a .333 hitting percentage and 9 assists.

Libbie Wolfenbarger (4 kills), Lily O’Dell (11 digs) and Aubrey Vogt (8 assists also played well.

Ida closes with a 22-19 record.

Richard will play in a regional at home.

Division 4 at Summerfield

PETERSBURG – Tri-County Conference champion rolled over Britton Deerfield 25-7, 25-17, 25-8 for the right to play in the regional at Concord.
