Barcelona transfer news has received another major boost, with Joao Cancelo now on the verge of completing his return to the Catalan club.
After weeks of negotiations, Barcelona and Al-Hilal have reached an agreement over the transfer of the Portuguese full-back, leaving only the final signatures before the deal becomes official.
According to COPE, the agreement is effectively complete, with Cancelo expected to sign a two-year contract at Spotify Camp Nou.
The transfer is expected to cost Barcelona around €10 million, including fixed and performance-related payments, after Al-Hilal reduced their initial asking price.
Barcelona moved after Portugal’s World Cup exit
It must be remembered that Barcelona had been waiting for Portugal’s involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to come to an end before accelerating negotiations.

With Portugal now eliminated, the Blaugrana wasted little time in moving the operation forward.
Cancelo himself made his intentions clear before travelling to the tournament.
Despite still being under contract with Al-Hilal until 2027, the Portuguese international was determined to secure a permanent return to Barcelona after spending the second half of the last season on loan at Camp Nou.
The Joao Cancelo transfer news suggests that determination has paid off, as Barcelona have already reached a personal agreement with the defender over a two-year contract, while the agreement between the two clubs is now all but complete.
In fact, Hansi Flick is hoping that Cancelo will immediately join the squad’s training camp in England, allowing the versatile full-back to begin preparations alongside his teammates without delay.

Before leaving for the summer break, it is said that Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco agreed on two important priorities for the Barcelona summer transfer window.
The first is completing the signing of Julian Alvarez, who has been identified as the club’s preferred target.
The second has always been ensuring Joao Cancelo’s Barcelona return becomes permanent following his successful loan spell.
Negotiations with Al-Hilal were not straightforward, as the Saudi Pro League side initially demanded around €15 million, a valuation Barcelona considered too high.
However, discussions continued, and the asking price gradually fell until both parties moved closer to an agreement worth approximately €10 million, including bonuses.
