Reese, who was named to the All-WNBA second team in her first season with the Atlanta Dream, is now eligible to renegotiate her base salary in 2027 due to the Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. The Dream can now offer Reese a maximum contract in her fourth year and a supermax extension for the subsequent three seasons.
Reese is scheduled to earn $396,282 in 2027, and the maximum contract was $1.19 million in 2026. The cap is expected to rise by as much as 13 percent next season, and the maximum salary would grow by the same percentage.
Reese was joined on the All-WNBA second team by Shakira Austin, Paige Bueckers, Jackie Young and Rhyne Howard, Reese’s teammate in Atlanta. It is also the first All-WNBA recognition for Howard and Austin.
The All-WNBA first team included the top five MVP candidates: A’ja Wilson, Olivia Miles, Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Breanna Stewart. Wilson and Stewart earned their seventh and eighth All-WNBA nods, respectively, while the Indiana Fever duo of Mitchell and Clark both made All-WNBA for the second time.
Since they are still on their rookie contracts, Clark and Bueckers can both able to renegotiate their fourth-year salaries due to the EPIC provision up to the maximum in 2027. Neither needed to make All-WNBA in 2026 to trigger that raise, however, as they are both previous All-WNBA honorees.
No WNBA team has a won a championship without a first-team All-WNBA selection since the Chicago Sky in 2021, but that is guaranteed to happen in 2026 with no Golden State Valkyries or Atlanta players on the first team.
